«Il detto Monte era trenta du’anni che io desiderava di montarci sopra» ….Così scriveva De Marchi nel 1500 dopo essere tornato dalla prima ascesa documentata del Corno Grande.
Questa mattina si parte all’alba da Penne, il gruppo è carico e per alcuni di noi è la prima volta che si prova ad arrivare sulla vetta più alta della catena del Gran Sasso e dell’appennino. L’emozione è tanta e dopo circa un’ora di macchina siamo davanti l’ Hotel Rifugio Campo Imperatore, parcheggiamo e iniziamo a salire.
La vista sulla piana è strepitosa, continuiamo a salire e gli scorci sul lato teramano del Gran Sasso offrono immagini mozzafiato.
Dopo circa 3 ore di cammino arriviamo ad un passo dal primo ghiacciaio ed è qui che comincia l’impresa; fin’ora il cammino è stato agevole ma adesso, anche se abbiamo scelto il sentiero più lungo e meno ripido, la pendenza inizia a farsi sentire.
Dopo circa cinque ore di cammino siamo sulla vetta più alta dell’ Appennino…il Corno Grande (2912 mt) lo spettacolo è unico…la vista del mare e le bellissime montagne abruzzesi viste tutte dall’alto verso il basso ma lo spettacolo ancora più unico è dato da un gruppo di ragazzi che con vino, dubbotte e canti popolari riempiono il silenzio che ci ha accompagnati alla vetta.
Dopo aver scritto il nostro nome nel libro degli scalatori contenuto nella croce riprendiamo il nostro cammino verso la base che raggiungiamo, stanchi, dopo circa tre ore di cammino.
FROM PENNE AU TO THE CORNO GRANDE «Il detto Monte era trenta du’anni che io desiderava di montarci sopra»… .So wrote De Marchi in 1500 after returning from the first documented ascent of the Big Horn. This morning we start from Penne, the group is charged and for some of us it is the first time wo try to get on the highest peak of the Gran Sasso and the Apennines. The emotion is so great and after about an hour’s drive we are before the ‘Hotel Rifugio Campo Imperatore, we park and begin to climb. The view is spectacular on the plain, we continue to climb and views on the Teramo side of Gran Sasso offer breathtaking images. After 3 hours of walking we reach a first step away from the glacier and here begins the enterprise; so far the walk was easy, but now, even if we choose the path longer and less steep, the slope begins to be felt. After about five hours of walking we are on the highest peak of the ‘Apennines … Corno Grande (2912 m), the show is unique … the view of the sea and the beautiful mountains of Abruzzo seen it all from the top down but the show even more unique is given by a group of boys with wine, dubbotte and folk songs fill the silence that accompanied us to the summit. After writing our name in the book of the climbers content in the cross we continue our journey towards the base that we reach, tired, after about three hours of walking.
